$512M Prison Hospital Contract Given to Two Firms

Many were waiting for the final results and the announcements of the state officials regarding the $512 million contract of the main portion of a new prison medical facility in Stockton, which has finally been awarded to a joint venture of Clark Construction Group of Bethesda, Md., and McCarthy Building Cos. of St. Louis on Tuesday.

The California Health Care Facility, Stockton will be operational from 2013 and according to the estimations done, the project will cost more than $900 million to provide long-term care to 1,722 mentally and physically ill state prisoners.

Though the facility has been planned to serve the noble cause from 2013 but from now only it has started serving many people as the officials have confirmed that the two-year construction project will generate approx 5,500 temporary jobs and 1,700 construction workers will be working on-site at one time.

According to the plans, the 1.2 million-square-foot prison, which will be constructed by Clark and McCarthy will be providing housing to the facility’s inmate patients and will also employ 2,400 doctors, nurses and correctional staffers to serve the people, who will be employed with an annual payroll of $220 million. Also, a diagnostics and treatment center, common areas and administrative support buildings are included in the construction plans of the medical facility thereby making the count reach to 33 buildings in totality.
