Blizzard premiers full opening cinematic of Diablo III at VGAs

The full opening cinematic for the 2008-announced Diablo III was premiered by Blizzard at the recent Spike TV Video Game Awards (VGAs). The game, which was announced at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational way back in
2008, has been under development all this while.

The debut of Diablo III's opening cinematic at the VGAs revealed that the game features the iconic Deckard Cain and his neice, Leah, suffering visions of Azmodan. The two characters are shown fleeing from some impending danger; and Cain gets struck down into hell, leaving a terrified Leah in shrieks.

Other than that, the video, till its very end, did not show much else with regard to the storyline of Diablo III, except that the game is set on the dark fantasy world of Sanctuary, which was saved the Burning Hells’ armies a few decades back.

Going by the indications from the trailer at the VGAs, Diablo III – which clearly looks to have one heck of an opening – marks Blizzard’s attempts to add more interesting characters and storylines to its games, which that basically been wicked combat fests in the past.

Diablo III – the hinted storyline of which appears to be more like a premise for an epic quest - is the successor of the 1996-released blockbuster Diablo as well as the equally popular Diablo II; and is reportedly set for release early next year.
