Microsoft gives details about Windows 8 mobile broadband improvements
According to the details shared by Microsoft on its Building Windows 8 blog, the forthcoming Windows 8 operating system will boast notable improvements over its predecessors in giving users the capability to manage their connections to Wi-Fi and mobile broadband networks.
As per the blog post published on Friday, the Windows 8 OS will be equipped with internal support for mobile broadband devices and a much tidier use of metered Internet connections, and the software will have its own usage counters to facilitate the users in keeping a track of the amount of data that they have consumed over and above their present billing cycle.
The blog post, by Microsoft group program manager Billy Anders, highlighted the fact that the designing of Windows 8 OS was undertaken with the aim of simplifying the process of connecting users to mobile broadband networks and enabling them to manage those connections in such a way that they could not only monitor their data usage but also control costs.
As such, over and above making the “incremental improvements” in Windows 8, Microsoft has also given due consideration to the basic of wireless connectivity in a manner that underscores a re-engineered OS to meet the needs of a mobile and wireless future.
Noting that Microsoft was fully aware that “Wi-Fi alone would not be enough” for giving the users “true mobility”, Anders said in the blog post that, with Windows 8, the company has “fully developed and integrated mobile broadband (MB) as a first-class connectivity experience within Windows -- right alongside Wi-Fi.”
