California Water Bill Opposed by GOP congressmen and Obama Administration
After decades of proceedings in court, in 2009 a key bipartisan agreement was passed by the State Legislature of California, against which now the house Republicans have raised their voice. They have represented their attack for restoring water to fisheries and wildlife.
This bill has various environmental groups and Bay Area Democrats in an uproar, but at the same time also possesses an excellent chance of passing the GOP-controlled House this year. This house is considered as one of those areas from abortion limits to spending cuts, where Republicans are strongly trying to shift the direction of government.
However, during the Democratic-controlled Senate, this water bill had enough strong opposition; these included the two democrats California Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer along with Obama administration also. In this regard, Feinstein said "I strongly oppose this bill, which I believe is dramatic overkill".
With all this, there now exist a question that in any parts of the wide-ranging legislation, now whether it would survive or would begin to loosen the state's efforts for allocating scarce water to the challenging demands of agriculture and the environment?
