Selling Of Mac OS X Lion Upgrade Through Mac App Store May Affect Retailers

A market analyst, Stephen Baker, of retail research firm NPD Group said that the decision of Apple to sell the Mac OS X Lion upgrade through its own Mac App Store is likely to affect the traditional retailers of the product.

The action taken by the company will not adversely affect the company's bottom line. However, the release of an OS upgrade is a great opportunity for the company to connect with its customers.

On Monday, Apple made an announcement that it would start selling Lion on the Mac App Store sometime in the next month for $29.99.

CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs said that the - success of the company's iPad tablet was a major driver in adding features to Lion. That operating system is strongly influenced by a smaller-form, factor OS, Windows Phone 7.

Meanwhile, at the Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Philip Schiller, the Company's Head of Marketing has claimed that Mac App Store was the world's largest seller of personal computer software, and was beating Best Buy, Wal-Mart and Office Depot in the field of apps.
